Thursday, October 30, 2003Sleepless in So CalMan this ash is really startin' to bug. Stupid arsoners! As you know the fires in California are still blazing strong with the help of the wind, but it was nice to see they will be getting some relief from the rains. It seems like this storm kinda came out of nowhere. These clouds gotta be traveling at at least 50 MPH. Sadly, so far the fires have claimed 20 lives, but the count is still rising. The firemen are becoming fatigued and the federal gov't has yet to send some help, but neighboring states have been sending a few men and women of their Fire Dept. down here to help. This is truely bad timing for California seeing as how we already don't have the money to support this type of disaster. Aside from the news, life has been somewhat tiring. The ash is getting me to where I can't breathe, and I've gotten 3-4 hours of sleep now for two days. I hate to complain, but I just can't seem to catch up on my sleep! Must I resort to sleeping in Econ (which I think was the case today, the guy must've been really boring cause I slipped in and out of sleep probably 3 times)? And to finish the complaint, I've got a major headache and back pain. I've made a new friend though! Its name is Alleve! I take Alleve every 8 hours in hope that I can have some relaxation, what with my shoulders being constantly tense, along with my lower back. Well, you've read about my complaints long enough, I'm done for the day. And as far as dressing up goes, I gotta run out and find a rastafarian hat, a Bob Marley T-shirt, and some rimmed glasses. What's so scary about it? I'm a Bob Marley fan who isn't a stoner! ph34r mY n0n-s+0n3r w4y5!!! Yeah, thought so. Now Playing - "Mr. Scruff - Blackpool Roll" Posted by Ryan Bach .xXx. 5:25 PM.xXx.------------------------------------------------------------------ Wednesday, October 29, 2003Pokie Mon or Pokay MonOk, you're probably wondering why this has such a rediculous title, but I just got out of 1st period right now and I'm still trying to contain my laughter. I just spent the last class listening to my friend argue about the correct pronunciation of PokeMon and other such nonsense. Of course, I was doing my work during this (cause it was due...yesterday =/ Oh well) but I just couldn't help but laugh histarically. It all started when the girl in front of us was wondering if her character looked like a guy or a girl (it was an anime style drawing, so you can see how gender varies easily) and this other girl came over and argued with me that it was indeed a guy, though I thought otherwise. She's like "It's a roshonin, which means 'young attractive male'!" and realizing she was talking about a cartoon I quickly replied, "It's a cartoon! How is it attractive?!?! It's a cartoon!" Then she apparently got upset and said I had insulted anime because it was not a cartoon, but rather animation. I dont see this guy waving his arms around in the air or jumping up and down...he seems to be standing on the page to me so its not really animation yet, now is it, I thought. Then my friend made a comment on Pokemon and she totally flipped on him saying he didn't pronounce it right... ...as I was listening to him make her sound even more stupid, I thought to myself that the Spanish had some doings in the making of the name since it just sounds like a spanish word. But, all in all, it was just truly comical because my friend was getting harrassed by this girl because of what he said about Pokemon (to be honest, we were just messing around ourselves, we don't have time to watch such shows). I mean this girl would have fought to the death about this! She does pass off as a bit weird, if you ask me, but I wont talk anymore about her than I have to. If only every week could be a hypothetical “new start” where you didn’t have to worry about things from past weeks. If only homework was fun, if only we had more hours in the day, if only life was easier, if only ants ran away at the site of their dead, if only pigs could fly, if only cancer wasn’t harmful, if only the world was a utopia, if only. I have, in fact, been on an ant-killing spree lately because for some reason they have attacked my computer desk…could it have been the soda I left overnight? Well…all I know is that I’ve sprayed these little buggers about 5 times, killing about a 100 of them each time, and yet they still keep coming back. Why don’t they run at the site of their dead? What? Do they just walk by and say, “Heh, look at Jim1032, he got messed up…see how that spray melted his limbs to his body? Hehe, oh well, where’s the sugar at?” I mean come on, if I saw a dead man on the road, I’d probably run the other way (after puking at the site of the dead body). Who knows, all I know is that I’ve probably killed about .0049% of the ants that are actually around this house…speaking of which, I noticed a huge line outside…I’ll spray it when I’m done! Yeah, as you can see, I’m pretty bored, hell, I’m posting about ants! Little buggers. On a different note, life’s been giving me a lot of problems lately. I’ve been seeing my friends in pain, seeing people around me getting into sin though they do not know it, and I myself have been bogged down with stress and the normal hard questions of life. Anyway, to help me, I opened up my Bible to Psalms 27, and it “reads” about how God is my shelter, my strength when I am outnumbered and outgunned (not literally). After reading it, I know that whenever I am pressured, stressed, or just not feeling like taking on another day, I can go to the dwelling place of God, I can go to Him and seek His face and find that He still loves me and that He will not forsake me. When I think I cannot complete the task at hand, He will be there to help me, He will be there to make sure that I finish it. Praise God that He loves me so much, that He will not forsake me! I've just been in one of those apathetic moods lately. Someone could run up to me right now and say some horrid prophecy of the world's demise and I'd probably just tell him to panic elsewhere, and I'd just go back to what I was doing. But its now Wednesday and I have yet to post something decent for about a week. I don't think many people understood my story on last Saturday's post (I hardly do, to be honest) and so it didn't blip real loud on my good post radar. Another thing that's been bugging me is everybody I know is having a birthday! For the past 3 weeks, I've been to 3 consecutive birthdays, each weekend (and another one this weekend, Happy Birthday Sean!). I haven't really had time to myself lately, unless you count Economics as time to myself, because if I paid any attention to how my teacher explains this stuff (rather than reading the book) it'd be a form of suicide by confusion and boredom...two of my favorite state of minds! But I'm really excited about Sean's party because it'll be the first time I can really kick back and just hang out with my friends. He'll have his pool table going and so I'll get to just enter my poolshark mode and just forget all my other frustrations. I've also got a book report coming up, due next Monday, that asks me to talk about some of the "Standard Literary Terms" contained in the book....I'm sorry, but didn't we learn about Setting, Theme, Characterization, and all that jazz back in Elementary school? Why do I need to go back if I already understand the concept of them? I will never understand the logic of high school teachers. The methods of teaching they use nowadays is way outdated and obsolete. I think they need to work on what's really important, especially in English. Doing book reports is only good if done once or twice, basically giving you the ability to summarize. Whatever happened to creative writing? Poetry? Are those no longer important enough to be taught? Speaking of school. Our school has decided to pick on our BASIC (Brothers and Sisters in Christ) club for wearing shirts that spell out "Jesus Loves You" on the day that the Senior Panorama Picture was taken....did they get mad at anyone else for shirts that promoted their club? No, and yet that was the argument they used. "The promotion of any specific group or club is not allowed on the Panorama." Why is it they just pick out BASIC and no other club? People claiming they're offended? Grow some skin, people. If I have to sit and listen to the filth that comes out of students' mouths every day at school and hear the crude and inappropriate comments they make, then I think you can deal with a little bit of Jesus' love. Grow up people. Ok...got it out of my system....and that, my friends, is the art of subject jumping. Good night! Why? I dunno. I just thought it'd be cool. Anyway. Here's something gnomic for all you people. A man was walking down the road one day and as he was walking through the dirty road made of gravel and dust he came upon a rose. He looked at that rose in admiration; saw its beauty even though it rested among rocks and dirt. He stopped for a while to admire it. The rose blossomed in front of him, revealing its beauty. He then decided he wanted to take it with him. So he gently plucked the flower from the ground and blew the dust off of it with his breath. He began to walk again, and as he did, the thorns on the rose began to sink into his hand. For a moment, he only felt the sharp thorns in his hand, but then he saw that these thorns from the beautiful rose had drawn blood. But he did not drop the rose, instead he kept holding it within his bloody hand, still admiring its beauty. Soon the rose leaked out its poison into the man’s bloodstream. The man grew tired, but still walked on, still held on to that rose. As he staggered, he said, "I must find a nice place for you. You do not deserve this dirty place." He soon collapsed to the ground, his heart stopped, his breathing stilled. The poison had overrun his body. As he fell, the rose had been released and it fell beside the man and took roots into the new ground. The flower began to thrive; it began bearing seeds. Time took its course. The man's body had deteriorated and his dust covered the rose and its seeds. Soon the winds blew and took up the seeds, carrying the seeds towards an oasis. On the winds of hope, the rose was able to fulfill the man's wishes. The desert rose's offspring thrived and prospered in paradise. The man smiled down from the heaven's and whispered through the winds, "It was worth it." Moral of the story is really only what you make of it. Yes, its revised from the first version because well, it was written late at night and I had realized today that I kinda left it without a real point in it, other than the situation being without hope. So I've changed it to sound less gloomy and gave it a bit more meaning. Now Playing - "(Punch-Out) OC Remix - Game Over - Little Mac's Confession" Posted by Ryan Bach .xXx. 12:22 AM.xXx.------------------------------------------------------------------ Tuesday, October 14, 2003I pledge allegiance to a nation under God!Ok folks, this was the last straw for me today because it appalls me to see that people can be so stupid. For instance, this Michael Newdow guy. As some of you may already know, he’s trying to get the Pledge of Allegiance banned from the public schools. Lets start off with the facts before I go talking about how much of a moron this guy really is. An atheist, Mr. Newdow, was angry enough with the Sacramento California School District that he decided to sue the school because of a teacher-led recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to America stating that it violated his 9 year old daughter her religious freedom. He claims that because of the phrase “under God” is in the Pledge that it is infusing religion into his daughter and the society surrounding. However, precedents say it is a voluntary act to say the Pledge of Allegiance, he claims that she shouldn’t be forced to hear it(This is what really got me ticked off). The First Amendment bans government “establishment of religion”, however, the Pledge has been declared constitutional in two previous cases. Lets hope they can hold the same conclusion for a third round. Ok, my turn to take potshots at this guy. The first thing I found laughable is that this guy is supposedly fighting for his daughter’s rights, however it seems to me like he’s going off of his own beliefs rather than his daughters. He claimed that the Pledge violates his daughter’s religious freedom, but it seems to me like he’s already robbed her of it long before. I have yet to hear one quote from the little girl claiming how upset she is about the Pledge of Allegiance, or could it be the fact that the guy is an atheist trying to force his beliefs upon others? Another thing he said was that his daughter shouldn’t be forced to hear the Pledge of Allegiance. What is wrong with this guy?!?! It’s a promise to be loyal to your own country! If he can’t recite it himself, he should find himself a new home. Besides, he doesn’t even have custody of the child! The 9-year-old girl is living with her mother, Mrs. Banning. The child even protests what her father is saying is wrong! She is fully aware of what is going on and she disagrees with her father. Is it just me, or does this sound like an atheist trying to take advantage of the times and make it so that government can’t so much as even utter “God”? If this guy is so adamant about not having God in his life, should he not be using the currency of America for the fact that the words “In God We Trust” are written or embossed on it? If he were really out for the good of the law, and upholding his interpretation of the law, he wouldn’t have sued the school, because his prize for winning the case would have “God” written all over it! Do not be fooled by such people who are filled with greed, America, for if you do, you shall surely pay the consequences. I hope you enjoy it Liz, and I hope that others can appreciate it as well. By Ryan Bach Another year of life has come and gone Its passing still echoes in our minds Times shared with friends and family Moments of happiness and joy Memories of time well spent Life, well spent Reminiscing about the greatness of life Whilst we danced through time’s sea Running with laughter in our hearts We became like children Full of faith and hope again Nothing can take this moment away Regret holds no bounds on our minds For we become what our life makes us Following our own paths Stopping only to look back Hold onto these moments For to forget would be as if it never happened Let them whisper into your heart Let it hit you like a cool breeze As you stand gazing at the ocean along the shoreline Let the azure sea echo your thoughts Listen with your heart Waves of encouragement crash at your feet Urging you to begin again Another year to be echoed Along the shores of time And as the sun rises above the horizon Let it light your path, give you vision Let it shine your path for the years to come And when the darkness covers the land, keep hope For the sun shall rise again to light your path Always Happy Birthday Lizzie! You are such a wonderful friend to have. You bring joy to my heart, and I’m glad I have a friend like you who cares. Your Friend, Ryan Now Playing - "(Metal Gear Solid 2) OC Remix - Spyder - Electric Gear Solid" Posted by Ryan Bach .xXx. 7:26 PM.xXx.------------------------------------------------------------------ Wednesday, October 01, 2003We Are The Youth Of The NationLately I’ve come to think about what school does to a student, not on the academic perspective, but rather the social and mental perspectives. We all know that school was originally planned to give young people a well-rounded knowledge, but I think lately school has been teaching a bit more than just math, English, or science. Furthermore, it isn’t the teachers who are teaching us. It is our fellow classmates. Our fellow classmates have been teaching us our social skills. Shaping and molding our minds to become people who can interact with others. Think back to when you were in elementary school. Life back then was about action figures and kickball (I write this from the perspective of the guy because it’s the only one I can relate to. Sorry ladies.). You made friends by bribing them with sharing your lunch, or picking them first to be on your kickball team. Back then, loyalty was easy to find, as most kids were willing to be your friend, that is, for a price. Most “loyalty”, however, was easily switched around if their friend was one of your enemies. Bullies would always take advantage of the one they saw as inferior, even telling others about how inferior the kid was. But after proper bribing, they’d be your friend by the next day. How this works, I’m not too sure, but it does. The concept of friends was so simple (yet so complicated if you think about it) during elementary school. What would life be like today if that system of “friendship” hadn’t evolved into what it is today? In some ways it hasn’t evolved, and in others, it’s greatly changed. Loyalty, for instance, lasts so much longer, maybe even a lifetime, than it did before. But the drama in friendship still goes on. One day best of friends. Worst rivals the next. How can one event change a friendship? And this is where “socially acceptable” comes into play. There are two groups known in schools today. Popular, and unpopular. Of course there are many more sub-groups than these, but I’ll stick with these two. The unpopular kids obviously outnumber the popular ones, but what sets up this hierarchy of students from the beginning? Why is it that the unpopular kids give so much power to the popular ones? How do they become popular in the first place? These unpopular kids see something they wish they had in the popular kids, be it looks, smarts, what have you. They become idols. Images of what they believe they could never become. However, untrue that is, it’s what they believe, so they try to please the popular kids, giving special treatment and what not. By doing this, they feel as if they are becoming more like them by laying out the red carpet for them. After a few years as being declared the popular ones, they can now take advantage of those who are mindlessly following them around. They can set up their rules of what is socially acceptable, and what is not. Trends begin to form, and by the time people reach high school, the groups are set. Popular kids tend to rule out the Student Body or any form of school politics. School revolves around them and their wants and needs. Not all of the popular kids are evil, but when most have power and they know it, they become corrupt. Greed, pride, reputation, these are all powerful feelings. What becomes of the unpopular? These are the criticized youth, the unacceptable. Some are able to hide in the shadows of the popular, but there are those who stand out in the open, susceptible to ridicule, criticism, and slander. What would happen to those who are picked on everyday? Where is their point of breaking? Better question. What would happen if they broke? Some say “who cares, it’s a fact of life”, and ignorance becomes bliss. But when an event such as Columbine occurs, they begin to question. “Why?” It’s because people don’t realize the consequences of what they do to others. They believe too much in the old saying of “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” and what they don’t realize is that this is probably the worst thing they could ever believe. Cause if you think for one second that your words you say to others have no effect on them, you’ve got another thing coming. Many kids these days don’t think about what they say, and it may be that the last thing they say to someone could make them break or make them flip out. But that would be absurd wouldn’t it? Someone breaking under pressure at school? Never gonna happen, right? Wrong. This is why we, the youth of our glorious nation of America, need to set aside our differences, our social preferences, and our prejudices. We need to unite and become a people who work together. Not many teenagers realize that most adults think our generation will be the one to screw things up, and by looking at the way things are within our social system, why wouldn’t they? We’re always bickering, fighting, and hating over the most trivial matters. We need to stop fooling ourselves and get our acts together. We must become united as one people, striving to better our lives and the world around us.
